CONCORD, NC – November 1, 2018 – Forty-two Big-Block Modifieds made the tow to premier dirt track racing facility The Dirt Track at Charlotte for the 2018 edition of the World of Outlaws World Finals presented by Can-Am. Two rounds of timed Hot Laps and two sets of Heat Races set the lineups for both Friday and Saturday’s Feature events. The big winner was Mike Mahaney from King Ferry, NY who took the checkered flag in both of his Heat Races.
The Hard-Charging Jimmy Phelps Brings HBR Motorsports to Victory Lane in Quebec
Saint-Marcel-de-Richelieu, QUE – September 8, 2018 – HBR Motorsports veteran driver Jimmy Phelps stole his second win of the season with a late-race pass on defending Champion Matt Sheppard at Le RPM Speedway. After starting eleventh, Phelps picked his way to the front with precision moves and calculated risks. It seemed as though Sheppard would hold him off, but on a restart, Phelps went low and came out ahead of the no. 9s going down the backstretch. For the remaining laps, Phelps made his Modified very wide to prevent the counter attack. Fellow sixth row starter Danny Johnson also had a strong charge to the front and finished in second place. Defending Series Championship Matt Sheppard lead the most laps, but he could not match Phelps’ determination in getting to the front.
VERNON, NY – July 8, 2018 – The Baldwinsville Bandit Jimmy Phelps struck gold, winning the $6,000 to win Freedom Fighter 100 at Utica-Rome Speedway in front of a tremendous crowd. Race fans witnessed an incredible race as Phelps held off charge after charge from the likes of Stewart Friesen and Danny Johnson. Johnson, coming off his win at Land of Legends Raceway, finished second, and has put a firm stamp on his bid for the overall Series Championship. The bottom step of the podium was filled by Erick Rudolph. He started 13th and made his way up through the field, passing points leader Matt Sheppard late in the 100-lap race.
