POINTS UPDATE: Sheppard pads lead, Sears Jr. moves into third

Take a look at the most recent points update and the latest movers with 13 races down in the quest for the 2023 Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified championship.

LATEST RACE(S): Lebanon Valley Speedway (Sept. 2)

CURRENT LEADER: Matt Sheppard has stayed strong throughout the entire season, scoring his seventh second-place finish at Lebanon Valley Speedway during the Mr. DIRT Track USA on Sept. 2.

His finish earned him an extra 32-point boost in the points standings, bring his lead to 92 points over second place Mat Williamson. The extra cushion brings a potential 10th Series title closer as September racing begins.

MOVERS:

TIM SEARS JR: (+2) Tim Sears Jr. finds himself in the top three after scoring a seventh-place finish at Lebanon Valley Speedway.

He entered the matchup in a tight battle, sitting nine points behind fourth-place Mike Mahaney and 10 points behind third-place Jimmy Phelps. The Central Square, NY native delivered the most successful finish out of the three and moved up two spots to third place.

JIMMY PHELPS: (-2) While Phelps has not been able to score a Series win this season, he has steadily remained in the top three due to his consistent finishes. He entered Lebanon Valley Speedway on Sept. 2 with four top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes.

The “Valley of Speed” continued its streak of being a challenge for the veteran driver, as Phelps’ 21st-place finish dropped him two spots to fifth place.

ADAM PIERSON: (+2) East Corinth, VT driver Adam Pierson has found some recent momentum, finishing fourth at Ransomville Speedway on Aug. 22 and fourth at Lebanon Valley Speedway on Sept. 2. The quality finishes moved him up two spots to 12th place in points.

FELIX ROY: (-1) Rookie of the Year front runner Felix Roy of Napierville, QC has seen his hard work pay off recently, scoring back-to-back ninth-place finishes before traveling to Lebanon Valley Speedway, inching his way closer to breaking into the top-10.

The 1/2-mile track was a challenge for the 19-year-old, as he finished in 23rd, dropping one spot to 13th place. He’ll look to rebound at Weedsport Speedway on Sept. 10.

STEVE BERNARD: (-1) Rookie Steve Bernard has battled the entire season to make a name for himself on the Series. Hailing from Granby, QC, he scored a season best performance on his home soil, with a fourth-place finish at Autodrome Drummond on Aug. 1.

But after mechanical issues forced him out of his Heat Race at Lebanon Valley, he fell one spot in the point standings to 13th place.
