Kenny Brightbill will return to NAPA Super DIRT Week and the Super DIRTcar Series, after a 13-year absence, to try and add his name to another page in the history books this October.

The 74-year-old, from Sinking Springs, PA, is teaming up with fellow NAPA Super DIRT Week champion Larry Wight to pilot the LJL Racing #99 Big Block Modified in the special Past Champions Race on Thursday, Oct. 6, for the 50th Running of NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week. Wight told Area Auto Racing News that it will be up to Brightbill if he feels like running the entire week at Oswego Speedway.

Brightbill was the first driver to write his name in the Super DIRT Week record books by claiming the pole for the inaugural event in 1972. Then, in 1988, he wrote his name in the most iconic page, winning the Super DIRT Week Big Block title that year.

He garnered a lot of success around the “Moody Mile” at the New York State Fairgrounds, also claiming the pole in 1978 and 1996, as well earning the pole in the Small Block Modified division in 1998. Overall, he earned three podium finishes in the Big Block event.

In his time racing with the Super DIRTcar Series, Brightbill made more than 100 starts and collected four victories. His last race with the Series and at Super DIRT Week was in 2009. This event will mark Brightbill’s first time competing at the dirt-covered Oswego Speedway.

Wight, the 2018 NAPA Super DIRT Week Big Block champion, will also join Brightbill in the Past Champions Race, as well as compete for his second NAPA Super DIRT Week title on Sunday, Oct. 9.
