No one has been more consistent than Alex Yankowski in Super DIRTcar Series competition this year.
And last week, the Covington Township, PA driver showed his consistency in the heat of summer by winning the SummerFAST title for the second time.
Yankowski attributed his success during the four-night swing to how well his team has clicked all year.
“I think it just shows we have a good bunch,” Yankowski said. “All of the crew guys have been here since day one, in the Sportsman days. So, we knew each other really well, and I think mini-series like that help show how well we work together.”
The highlight of Yankowski’s SummerFAST run came at Brewerton Speedway, when he led the opening lap, fell back to seventh, and climbed back to the lead with a few laps to go to win. “Kid Rocket” never left the bottom during the race, a strategy he saw Amy Holland-Buff, who races weekly at Brewerton, use to drive from 27th to fourth when the Series stopped at the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon” in 2025.
“Amy Holland can roll the bottom (at Brewerton) better than anybody else,” Yankowski said. “I didn’t have any intention of having to move up at all. I knew I’d lose some track position because of it. But when we drew the pole, it made me that much more confident I could ride for a long time. I think with a 60-lapper compared to a 75, I was getting more worried at the end that we weren’t going to have enough time for a drop-off to happen. But I just tried to ride it out, and I felt like I committed to that, and I was either going to win because of it, or finish fifth.
“The whole time we fell back, I felt like we had a really great race car. I just didn’t really want to push it and upset the tires.”
Those four SummerFAST Features also counted toward the overall Super DIRTcar Series championship, as he kept his streak alive of being the only driver to finish in the top 10 of every points-paying event in 2026. With nine races remaining, he holds an 84-point lead over three-time defending champion Mat Williamson entering the Cavalcade Cup 100 at Weedsport Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 6.
With a possible Super DIRTcar Series title looming, Yankowski said he isn’t feeling any pressure. That means he isn’t changing the formula that’s gotten him to the top of the standings: hard work.
“I don’t feel like we’re expected to win,” Yankowski said. “There’s a lot of really good drivers and teams like HBR, and Buzz Chew, and Matt Sheppard. So, I don’t feel any pressure. I don’t feel like we’re expected to win it, so we’re just going to keep going up and down the road, racing away, and trying to have fast race cars.”
Yankowski leads the Super DIRTcar Series into Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, NY, on Sunday, Sept. 6, for the Cavalcade Cup 100.
