Its Halloween and the book on the 2008 DIRTcar Racing NorthEast season is just about to close. Not so scary for race teams already firming up their wintertime plans is the thought that a brand new season of short-track competition is now 3-1/2 months away.

The 38th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park in February will be highlighted by the annual pilgrimage south to the Sunshine State for the Advance Auto Parts Big-Block Modifieds.

Danny Johnson saved his best for last as he scored his first Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series win of the season Sunday afternoon in the 47th running of the Eastern States 200 Big-Block Modified Championship at Orange County Fair Speedway. Johnson’s fifth career win in the nation’s longest-running short-track event of its kind was the second straight for car owner Mike Petruska and DJ’s first DIRTcar victory of the season was worth $20,000 for the Atlas Paving no. Modified veteran Pat Ward was relegated to the last chance qualifier, then left no doubt as he led flag-to-flag to capture top honors Sunday at the New York State Fairgrounds in the Dig Safely New York Shootout on the final day of competition during Super DIRT Week XXXVII. Ward out-dragged front row Gypsum teammate Roy Bresnahan from his outside pole-position start on the first trip around the Syracuse Mile and led the entire distance in the 20-lap last chance qualifier.
