Super DIRTcar Series Kicks Off 2016 at Fulton’s Highbank Holdup

DIRTcar Northeast Sportsman help kick off the Highbank Holdup weekend on Friday

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – April 26, 2016 – The Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds travel to Fulton Speedway to kick-off the regular season points race on Saturday, April 30 during the Highbank Holdup weekend.

The Super DIRTcar Series, the nation’s premier touring big-block modified series, returns to action after four nights of non-points events during DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in February.

Despite starting a new team in the off-season, Matt Sheppard returned to action in old form, scoring one win and picking up the coveted ‘Big Gator’ trophy for taking the DIRTcar Nationals Big-Block Week Championship.

Brett Hearn, Rick Laubach and Tim Fuller joined Sheppard in victory lane during the event.

Sheppard carries the momentum of DIRTcar Nationals and of last season into Fulton this weekend after he claimed the 2015 Super DIRTcar Series championship. Though second-place finisher Billy Decker won one more feature events in 2015 than Sheppard, the No. 9H machine had the consistency, taking home more top-5 and top-10 performances than any other driver in the field.

Sheppard, a Waterloo, N.Y.-native, will try for his fifth championship (2010-12, 15). But other drivers gained momentum late last season, and they are expected to pick up where they left off in 2016.

Hearn, an eight-time series champion finished fifth in the 2015 points standings, but his 32 top 10-or-higher finishes ranked only second to Sheppard. Hearn holds the record for most career top-5 finishes in Super DIRTcar history (361).

The DIRTcar Northeast Sportsman help kick off the Highbank Holdup weekend on Friday night at Fulton as the Northeast’s premier sportsman series competes alongside the Empire Sprint Series. The Super DIRTcar Series then takes on the track on Saturday night for the finale Highbank Holdup 100.
