Lingering Effects From Heavy Rain Storms Cancel Thunder on the 1000 Islands Weekend

Excessive rain from the past couple of weeks in the LaFargeville, NY area, creating over saturated grounds at Can-Am Speedway, has caused Super DIRTcar Series and track officials to cancel the Thunder on the 1000 Islands weekend.

Track officials worked tirelessly to get the track in raceable condition but determined even with their continuous efforts the track will not be ready for this weekend’s event due to the lingering effects from the storms. Series and track officials are looking for a potential reschedule date.

“This is probably the hardest decision I have had to make in the past six years of owning Can-Am Speedway,” said Tyler Bartlett, owner of Can-Am. “We are officially pulling the plug and cancelling the weekend. We do not feel we have the proper timetable to be able to produce a quality surface I will put my credibility on the line for. I want to cancel [the event] as to not interfere with teams and spectators weekend plans any further.”

The Super DIRTcar Series will be back in action on Sunday, April 23, at Bridgeport Speedway for the King of the Big Blocks showcase event — a 75-lap, $7,500-to-win, event.
