After two Super DIRTcar Series Qualifying sessions at the Dave Smith Motors World of Outlaws World Finals, a pair of drivers gained momentum Wednesday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
Logan Watt earned the Billy Whittaker Cars and Trux Quick Time Award for Thursday’s program, while Mat Williamson set Quick Time for Friday’s event.
Watt, from Boyertown, PA, ran a 16.009-second lap in his Qualifying session, driving the No. 14W this is dad usually drives. The future MD3 Rookie of the Year contender said he felt pressure to deliver after announcing he’d join forces with Vinny Salerno in 2027.

“I kind of had to clear all my head out about that stuff, and we were able to come out of the box quick,” Watt said. “Back at home our tracks are fast, and you got to turn. When you have a track like this, it takes me back to home. I’m a little nervous for tomorrow because when we race it could be a little different.”
Williamson, meanwhile, was quickest in Friday’s Qualifying for the second consecutive year, laying down a 15.988-second lap to earn his Series-leading fifth Quick Time of the season.
The St. Catharines, ON driver isn’t mathematically eliminated from championship contention, and said he knew he needed a strong Qualifying run to start the week.
“I’ve been saying that Billy the Kid (engines) builds a great motor all year, and you come to places where you need motor, it shows how good his program is,” Williamson said. “We didn’t really change the car too much (from the first session). A turn here, a turn there to stay on top of the racetrack. But most of all the guys made really smart decisions, and we put it on top of the board.”
