Weedsport, NYMarch 21, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director

The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event scheduled to open the season at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on Saturday, March 22 has been cancelled. Falling victim to the weather for the third time in nine years, the ‘North-South Shootout’ special for Big-Block Modifieds will not be rescheduled.

An unseasonable combination of cold temperatures, already wet grounds and more inclement weather in the forecast forced track and series officials to cancel the long-anticipated show prior to noon on Friday. The early announcement allowed ample time to contact many of the traveling teams as well as alert even more fans that were planning to attend the popular stop in Maryland.

The next race date listed on the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series schedule is Thursday, May 1 when the top tour travelers invade the Old Dominion State. The trip to Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will mark just the second-ever series event staged at the popular Jamaica, Virginia oval since the tour originated in 1980. The 2008 race format at VMS concludes with a 60-lap feature race finale for the Big-Blocks with a lucrative sum of $10,000 saved for the winner.

Another all-star field of cars is expected to sign in at VMS, led by defending race winner Danny Johnson, reigning overall Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block points king Brett Hearn and a full field of the best Big-Block Modified teams from throughout the DIRTcar NorthEast circuit.
