With the Australian racing season now at an end, one driver is busy packing his bags in preparation for a trip that will take him half way round the world.
Australian V8 Dirt Modified Champion Peter Britten jets off to the United States on Tuesday (June 9) for a six-race tour in New York State. His first race will be at Can-Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville on June 12.
“It’s getting pretty close now,” Britten said. “The car is ready to go, the panels have all been sign written, this time next week we’ll be racing!”
At just 21 years of age, Britten has been one of the leading V8 Dirt Modified drivers in Australia this past season, amassing five feature race wins in addition to the Victorian State Championship and prestigious Australian Championship. All of his 2009 successes came aboard his family-owned JBR Motorsport Troyer.
Britten will be piloting a brand new 2009 Troyer during his North American campaign.
“We’re not expecting to come home with a handful of feature wins but we definitely want to be competitive. We’ll have all the equipment we need to do a good job so if we can come away with a straight race car and having been on the pace, then we’ll be happy.”
After his Can-Am debut on June 12, he then has consecutive races at Fulton Speedway (June 13) and Cayuga County Fair Speedway (June 14) in Weedsport. His final three races will be at Brewerton Speedway (June 19), Canandaigua Speedway (June 20) and Cayuga County (June 21).
“If you had told me 12 months ago that I would be going to the US to race a Modified I wouldn’t have believed it. Its something I have wanted to do for a long time and I just can’t thank Bill Colton and Troyer Racecars, the H & H Motorsports team and Jimmy Phelps enough for all they have done to help pull this deal together. Hopefully, we can do a good job and maybe come back next year for another shot.”
