Super DIRTcar Series, Albany-Saratoga Speedway to Honor Don Davies With June Event

The Super DIRTcar Series field comes to green at Albany-Saratoga Speedway

The Super DIRTcar Series will make a second stop at Albany-Saratoga Speedway in June in honor of Hall of Fame motorsports journalist Don Davies.

The Don Davies NY Modifieds 76 will run on Tuesday, June 25, as a tribute to Davies who died of cancer in August. Davies and his wife Jo Ann have been involved with the sport for more than 50 years, including the “NY Modifieds” column in Area Auto Racing News.

To make the event special, the race will run in two segments. After the first 46 laps, an inversion will occur, and cars will line up in the new order under caution. Then, it’ll be a 30-lap sprint to the checkered flag for a $7,600 prize.

Albany-Saratoga Speedway promoter Lyle Devore jumped at the chance to honor a friend and long-time supporter of “The Great Race Place.”

“Like so many other people in racing, I have known Don and Jo Ann for a long time,” Devore said. “But when (track owner Howard Commander) and I took over the operation of Albany-Saratoga in 2012, they became more than just friends. They really helped me with the transition period and went from being friends and colleagues to being part of my family.

“Don’s passing was a shock to a lot of people, but now that we’ve had some time to adjust to his absence, I wanted to do something really special to preserve his legacy.”

The rain date for the Don Davies NY Modifieds 76 is Wednesday, June 26.

As another way to make the event unique, lap sponsorship and other bonuses will be available. More details will be announced before the event.

DIRTcar Sportsman and DIRTcar Pro Stocks will also be on the card.

The Super DIRTcar Series starts its 2024 season at Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park, Feb. 14-17. For tickets, visit dirtcarnationals.com.
