Record $50,000 Purse For Advance Series Stop At Virginia

Virginia

Weedsport, NYApril 25, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director

Less than one week remains before the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series returns to the Old Dominion State for the long-anticipated Paul Sawyer Memorial at Virginia Motor Speedway.

An unprecedented first-place prize of $10,000 —with a whopping $750 just to start— has been touted since track promoter Bill Sawyer first made the announcement at Super DIRT Week last October. In between lies an additional $38,000, making the May 1 show a truly unparalleled event in the history of DIRTcar Big-Block Modified racing.

“This is easily the biggest single-day event in Advance Series history for the Big-Blocks,” declared Cory Reed, DIRTcar Northeast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning. “Right now only Super DIRT Week at the Syracuse Mile and Eastern States Weekend at Orange County can rank ahead of this one. With $10-grand on the line for 60 laps of green flag racing it’s already attracted the top racers from up and down the coast. We can’t thank the Sawyer Family enough for giving our teams this great opportunity to participate in such a special show and kick off the tour in the most grandiose fashion.”

On Thursday, May 1 VMS pit gates will swing open at 3pm and grandstand seating is scheduled to begin at 5pm. Integra Shocks Time Trials for the Big-Block Modifieds follow a 6:45pm practice session with qualifying heats staged immediately after.

Race teams can call DIRTcar NE Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Cory Reed at the DIRTcar NE Office (315/834-6606) for questions regarding race rules or contact NorthEast PR Director Tom Skibinski at DIRTcar NE headquarters (x28), e-mail tskibinski@dirtcar.com to register.
