Rain Postpones Advance Series Show at Brewerton Until Friday, August 15

Weedsport, NYAugust 8, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director

Overnight showers and continued heavy rain throughout Central New York on Friday morning has forced track and tour officials to postpone the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series WHF Racing 100 at Brewerton Speedway until Friday, August 15.

The one week delay sets up a big tripleheader of Advance Series activity with the rescheduled event at Brewerton kicking off the weekend followed by two more 100-lappers at Can-Am Motorsports Park on Saturday, Aug. 16 and Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday, Aug. 17. With each feature paying out $6,000 to the winner, nearly $20,000 is now riding on the line for any driver able to sweep the three-day affair.

“Piggy-backing Brewerton with Can-Am and Cornwall makes the most sense for all the travelers this time of year,” said DIRTcar Racing NorthEast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Cory Reed, after joining WHF Racing Promoter Art Halliday in making the official announcement at 10 a.m. Friday morning. “There were close to three inches of rain last night and its pouring right now so that was an easy call. Finding a suitable new date and spreading the word as quickly as possible is a bigger task.”

Racers don’t have to wait very long to appease their need for speed in the Advance Auto Parts Super Series as all the tour stars will be at Canandaigua Speedway tomorrow, Saturday, August 9, for the Ferris Mowers Twin 50s. Each Big-Block Modified main offers a $3,000 top prize along with a guaranteed starting berth in the prestigious Rite Aid 200 Championship race on Oct. 12 of Super DIRT Week XXXVII at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.

Current Advance Series points leader and former track champion Billy Decker will be leading the way west to the popular ‘Land of Legends’ oval, where he will be greeted by Saturday night Canandaigua regulars and fellow tour runners Steve Paine, Gary Tomkins, Matt Sheppard, Justin Haers and Jeff Brownell Jr. All-time Canandaigua feature winner Alan Johnson and younger brother Danny Johnson, along with reigning Mr. DIRTcar points king Brett Hearn, Dale Planck, Jimmy Phelps Frankie Caprara and young guns Ryan Phelps, Billy Dunn and Larry Wight will also be contending in one of the biggest events of the season in wine country.

Canandaigua pit gates swing open Saturday at 4 p.m. and seating in the main grandstands begins at 5 o’clock. A driver’s meeting kicks off the activity at 5:45pm with warm-ups slated to begin at approximately 6 o’clock. Big-Block Modified Integra Shocks Time Trials follow at 6:30 p.m. and the first qualifying heat for companion divisions goes off the line at 7 o’clock.

Adult (15-64 yrs.) general admission tickets are $20 each, Senior Citizens (65 yrs.+) $18, Students (10-14 yrs) $5 and Children (9 yrs. + under) Free. For more information, please contact the DIRT NorthEast Office (315/834-6606) or the speedway on raceday (585/394-0961). General Admission tickets and pit passes will be available at the gate on race day.

Canandaigua Speedway is located at the Ontario County Fairgrounds, east of the city on Town Line Road (County Road 10), with easy access off either Exit 43 (Manchester, Route 21 South) or Exit 44 (Farmington, Route 332 South) of the New York State Thruway.
