POINTS UPDATE: Williamson continues to chip at points lead, third through fifth place separated by 10 points

Take a look at the most recent points update and the latest movers with 12 races down in the quest for the 2023 Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified championship.

LATEST RACE(S): Ransomville Speedway (August 22)

Current Leader: Matt Sheppard entered the matchup at Ransomville Speedway on Aug. 22 with a 64-point cushion after securing his second SummerFAST title with his win at Land of Legends Raceway on Aug. 16. The victory was the third of the season for the nine-time and defending Series champion.

However, with Mat Williamson continuing to stay resilient in the championship chase, the points battle is down to a 60-point separation after Ransomville Speedway.

JIMMY PHELPS: (3rd, 1847 points) The Baldwinsville, NY native came into the Ransomville matchup third in points, 229 points behind second place Mat Williamson, anchored by his consistent finishes. But the veteran driver can’t let up as several up-and-coming Series drivers are battling to surpass him on the leaderboard.

After an eighth-place finish at Ransomville Speedway, for his seventh top-10 finish of the season, he sits 242 points behind leader Matt Sheppard, but just one point in front of fourth-place Mike Mahaney.

MIKE MAHANEY: (4th, 1846 points) Continuing to find consistent finishes, such as his sixth-place finish at Ransomville, the Kings Ferry, NY driver remains in the thick of a tight points battle within in the top five. He currently sits in fourth place, only one point behind third place Jimmy Phelps, but also only nine points ahead of Tim Sears Jr.

TIM SEARS JR: (5th, 1837) The Central Square, NY native has been quietly climbing up the leaderboard throughout the season, posting competitive finishes, including a third-place finish at his home track Brewerton Speedway and a fifth-place finish at Ransomville. With that, he currently sits fifth in points, nine points behind Mahaney.

MOVERS:

JACK LEHNER: (+2): “The Ginja Ninja” Jack Lehner had a stellar run at the second annual SummerFAST, scoring a fifth-place finish on opening night at Brewerton Speedway and then a third-place finish at Land of Legends two nights later. The two solid finishes moved him up two spots to seventh in the points battle, putting him in contention for his best career points finish.

FELIX ROY: (+2) The Napierville, QC rookie has shown significant improvement adjusting to American tracks since the beginning of the season. The 19-year-old finished in ninth place at Land of Legends on Aug. 16 after charging from 22nd place. His fourth top-10 finish of the season moved him two spots into 12th, putting him in the lead for Rookie of the Year honors.
