POINTS UPDATE: Sheppard Increases Lead After Orange County Win; Britten Continues Points Climb

Take a look at the most recent points update and the latest movers with five races down in the quest for the 2023 Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified championship.

LATEST RACE: Orange County Fair Speedway (July 5)

Current Leader:

Matt Sheppard (+31 points): Matt Sheppard entered the Orange County Fair Speedway matchup with a slim four-point lead over second place Mat Williamson. After securing his second win of the season, his lead has jumped to 35 points. The Waterloo, NY driver has not finished outside the top 10 thus far this season.

Movers:

Peter Britten (+1): With his third top-five finish this season at Orange County Fair Speedway, the Aussie has broken into the top three in points. Consistency has been key for “The Batman,” netting four top 10 finishes in a row, including back-to-back top fives.

Jimmy Phelps (-1): After a successful Memorial Day Weekend that included a runner-up finish at his home track, Weedsport Speedway, followed by a top-five finish at Lebanon Valley, Phelps has placed outside the top 10 in the last two Series competitions. With that he dropped from third to fourth in points but will look to battle back when the Series heads to Big Diamond Speedway on July 11.

Jack Lehner (+1): After a difficult showing at his home track, Albany-Saratoga Speedway, on June 13 where he finished 24th, The “Ginja Ninja” fought back to score his first top-10 performance of the year, finishing in eighth place at Orange County Fair Speedway. The finish boosted him to 12th place, edging closer back to the top 10.

Steve Bernard: (-2): The Granby, QC native continues to acclimate to novel American tracks that differ from the conditions of the Canadian tracks he is accustomed to. Bernard currently sits in 14th place as he looks for his first top-10 finish of the season. His best performance came at Lebanon Valley’s The King of Spring on May 29 where he finished 12th.

Larry Wight (+1): Larry Wight delivered a hard-fought performance on his way to a third-place finish at Orange County Fair Speedway. It was his first podium finish in Series competition this season, bumping him up one spot into 13th place in points.
