POINTS UPDATE: Mahaney Breaks Into Top-Five After Win, Williamson Chips at Sheppard’s Lead

Take a look at the most recent points update and the latest movers with 11 races down in the quest for the 2023 Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified championship.

LATEST RACE(S)Autodrome Drummond (July 31-Aug. 1), Brockville-Ontario Speedway (Aug. 2)

Current Leader: With a seventh, ninth, and secondplace finish during the Canadian swing, nine-time and defending Super DIRTcar Series champion Matt Sheppard still leads by 59 points – however lost four points to Mat Williamson during the swing.

MIKE MAHANEY (+3): After an 18th-place finish on night one at Autodrome Drummond, Mike Mahaney rebounded for a magical night two, driving himself to Victory Lane at the Drummondville, QC track. He followed that up with a sixth-place finish at Brockville-Ontario, moving him into the top-five in the points chase.

MAX MCLAUGHLIN (+3): “Mad Max” had a difficult first half of the season, finding himself outside the top-10 in the points chase after recording only three top-10 finishes. He notched his fourth of the season at Brockville-Ontario Speedway on August 2, breaking back into the top-10 in eighth place.

ANTHONY PERREGO (-8): The visit north of the border was not kind to the Walden, NY resident, as he blew his engine night one at Autodrome Drummond, sending the 2022 Rookie of the Year to the sidelines. He’ll look to make up the incurred deficit at SummerFAST starting Aug. 14 at Brewerton Speedway.

DARREN SMITH (-2): The sophomore driver’s first trip to Canada with the Series was a challenge, as he finished 23rd on night one at Autodrome Drummond, suffered a DNF on night two, and then 18th at Brockville-Ontario Speedway. The three finishes dropped him two spots in the points battle into 11th place.

LARRY WIGHT (-2): Two top-10 finishes bumped “Lightning” Larry Wight two spots into 10th in points. He finished 10th on night one at Autodrome Drummond, then followed it up with an eighthplace showing. He will enter SummerFAST 13 points behind the ninth-place contender.

STEVE BERNARD (+2): The Granby, QC native and Series Rookie Steve Bernard notched his best finish on night two of competition at Autodrome Drummond, finishing in fourth place in front of his home track fans. It was his first top-five finish of the season and bumped him two spots to 12th. He will go into SummerFAST leading all rookie contenders in the points battle.
