Weedsport, NYJuly 30, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director

The 2008 Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series begins its stretch run for teams contending for the elusive overall titles in Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified, Sportsman Modified and Pro Stock classes.

A dozen shows highlight the month of August with six title events scheduled as part of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series in both Canada and the U.S. Pro Stockers get back on track with three big events and 358-Modified chauffeurs return to action after a three-month layoff while Sportsman Series point chasers have the month open to prepare for their upcoming autumn assault.

Ransomville Speedway leads off the agenda with the $6,800-to-win 68-lap Alex Friesen Summer Nationals for 358-Modifieds on Friday, August 1. The region’s top Small-Block stars follow up with a pair of century grinds in the north country at Mohawk International Raceway on Aug. 21 and Cornwall Motor Speedway on Aug. 31.

The mighty Mod Squad makes its annual trek across the border to Merrittville (Ont.) Speedway on Monday, August 4 for the Trevor Wilkens Memorial before returning stateside for back-to-back Advance Series shootouts at Brewerton Speedway and Canandaigua Speedway, Aug. 8-9. Can-Am Motorsports Park and Cornwall (rescheduled from July 13) stage consecutive 100-lappers Aug. 16-17 prior to the touring stars arriving at the home of DIRTcar NorthEast on Aug. 31 for Twin 54s at Cayuga County Fair Speedway.

Genesee Speedway attracts the best Pro Stock racers in the area for its annual series showdown on Saturday, August 2, while Autodrome Drummond stages its first-ever Mr. DIRTcar Championship event for the full-fender division on Aug. 23. Top Pro Stock teams venture to Ontario to close out the month at Cornwall Motor Speedway as part of a big DIRTcar doubleheader on Aug. 31.

Overall 2008 Mr. DIRTcar Champions will be determined by tabulating points earned in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds and the Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series for 358-Modified, Sportsman, Pro Stock and Street Stock teams along with bonuses collected in each divisional DIRTcar Regional Racing Series. This year the track bonus formula is identical for all five touring classes.

Each driver will take the best five (5) finishes from a designated hometrack to collect bonus points which will then be added to actual Series points to determine the ‘08 titlist. Using the standard DIRTcar NE weekly points format, a driver winning five features at a given speedway could carry up to 300 extra points (60 per win) into the Mr. DIRTcar Championship when track points are officially tallied after Labor Day.

To gain access to DIRTcar Racing Series headline stories during the season, log into www.dirtcar.com and select ‘Series’ at the top then choose Mr. DIRTcar Series (#7) and hit ‘GO’ on right (all releases are also posted in the NEWS category).
