Weedsport, NY — March 18, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director
The 2009 Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series opener, 7th Annual North-South Shootout at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on Saturday, March 28 is just 10 days away.
Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Series partnership with Advance Auto Parts based in Roanoke, Virginia, those top-10 drivers in the final 2008 Advance Auto Parts Series Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified will be profiled for each of the 10 days leading up to the event.
This talented group of drivers has accounted for 207 Advance Series race victories from the list of 67 drivers taking checkered flags in 619 tour events held at 45 speedways around the Northeast since 1980. Along with 870 DIRTcar Northeast Big-Block feature wins and 63 track point titles, these same 10 drivers have amassed nine overall Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Championships and all are expected back to compete full-time with the ’09 Advance Auto Parts Series, beginning with the Spring lid-lifter at Hagerstown.
With his sixth year of following the Advance Series clearly in sight, Justin Haers reached the Top-10 in tour points for the second time on the strength of 14 Top-10s, posting fifth-place bests closest to his Central New York home at Canandaigua and Cayuga County Fair speedways. Strapped into the Haers Bros. Racing no. 3 Phelps Cement Products-SMV Motorsports-Jeff Jolly Masonry/Bicknell machine, ‘T-Bone’ led five features for 73 laps and scored his lone heat race win at Fulton Speedway.
Finishing a career-best eighth in the 2005 Mr. DIRTcar standings, Haers posted his lone Integra Shocks Fast Time at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in ’04, the same year he was honored as DIRTcar NE’s top Big-Block rookie. Eleven Big-Block feature wins have been scored at four tracks with Cayuga County topping the charts with seven checkered flags since 2002.
The Phelps, New York pilot has qualified for the ‘North-South Shootout’ in three of his four attempts since the event originated at Hagerstown Speedway in 2001, posting a track-best ninth-place finish in both 2005 and ’07.
