The 2009 Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series opener, 7th Annual North-South Shootout at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on Saturday, March 28 is just seven days away.
Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Series partnership with Advance Auto Parts based in Roanoke, Virginia, those top-10 drivers in the final 2008 Advance Auto Parts Series Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified will be profiled for each of the 10 days leading up to the event.
This talented group of drivers has accounted for 207 Advance Series race victories from the list of 67 drivers taking checkered flags in 619 tour events held at 45 speedways around the Northeast since 1980. Along with 870 DIRTcar Northeast Big-Block feature wins and 63 track point titles, these same 10 drivers have amassed nine overall Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Championships and all are expected back to compete full-time with the ’09 Advance Auto Parts Series, beginning with the Spring lid-lifter at Hagerstown.
In just his third season of Advance Series competition, Frankie Caprara logged 14 Top-10 finishes including a career-best second-place at Cayuga County Fair Speedway to wind up seventh in overall points. The ’08 Can-Am Motorsports Park champion led in two feature events behind the wheel of the Thompson Motorsports no. FX1 Caprara Car Company-Auto Value-JK Contracting/Troyer ride to conclude his first full year on tour.
Caprara was recognized in 2001 as the Northeast’s top Big-Block rookie, finishing 19th in overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRT Modified points with an 11th-place best scored at Brewerton Speedway. Still in search of first career Advance Series victory, he earned his lone Integra Shocks Fast Time Award in front of a national audience speeding around the Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in 2002, again placing 19th in the final Mr. DIRTcar point standings that same year before following a schedule closer to home.
The north country standout from Watertown, New York will be looking to qualify for his third ‘North-South Shootout’ at Hagerstown Speedway, making the field in his first two tries, placing 27th in the 2001 debut before improving to 9th in ’02.
