Add one more marquee name to the list of contenders signed up for the 7th Annual North-South Shootout at Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday, March 27.

Looking to qualify for just his second Super DIRTcar Series show at Hagerstown, short-track superstar Billy Pauch Sr. from Frenchtown, N.J. recently teamed up with car owner Nick Nero to steer his no. 49er Bicknell entry powered by the new ‘DIRTcar 500’ engine in the 2010 tour opener.

Already a seven-time winner at Hagerstown, Pauch will be looking for his first victory at the popular Maryland oval since taking the checkered flag in a small-block Modified feature event in 1999. The open-wheel veteran owns seven Super DIRTcar Series wins spread among a handful of tracks in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Nero’s 49er mount is the same BRP machine that New Yorker Danny Johnson raced to a pair of top-10 finishes with during the Florida DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park in February. Pauch was one of the most interested competitors in DIRTcar’s new high-performance spec engine option that was designed and built specifically for Big-Block Modified racing.

Hagerstown pit gates scheduled to unlock tomorrow at 3:00 p.m., grandstands opening at 4:00 p.m. and warm-ups starting at 5:30 p.m. followed by Big-Block Time Trials. Hagerstown Speedway is located on U.S. Route 40, four miles west of I-81.
