With entries spanning four states and Canada, a preliminary Advance Auto Parts Big-Block Modified pre-race roster for the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park is taking shape with 40 drivers currently planning to compete.

The return trip to Volusia kicks off with an optional practice day on Tuesday, Feb. 12, opens for racing on Wednesday and concludes Saturday, Feb. 16 with a big $5,000-to-win 50-lapper. Two more Big-Block shows are scheduled in between on Feb. 14-15.

“We’ve already heard from a lot of teams and we’re expecting another great turnout,” said Cory Reed, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning. “There’s a solid mix of veteran drivers with talented newcomers and we can’t wait until they all get the chance to trade some paint in just one more month.”

The formidable field of cars and stars from the NorthEastern Big-Block Modified ranks includes 22 drivers from last year, with the top-nine in final 2007 Florida Tour points once again making the haul down south.

Headlining the assault are reigning Alltel DIRTcar Nationals points king Danny Johnson, defending overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Champion Brett Hearn and DIRTcar NorthEast’s all-time winningest Big-Block Modified driver Alan Johnson. That legendary trio is joined by Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series standouts Billy Decker, Jimmy Phelps, Dale Planck and Matt Sheppard along with other New York notables Pat Ward, Dave Rauscher, Vince Vitale, Roger Chrysler, Sean Beardsley, Jeff Isabell and Jeremy Markle.

Garden State speedsters Jimmy Horton, Billy Pauch, David VanHorn and Rich Scagliotta are signed up for the trip to gator country as are Pennsylvania pilots Rick Laubach, Colin Jackson, Dan Vauter, Darwin Greene, Dave Schrader and Kevin Hirthler plus Delaware drivers Jamie Mills, Chad James and Steve Downs, and the lone Massachusetts entry Andy Bachetti.

2007 Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Champion Mario Clair, Wallace Stacey and Martin Gagne pose a triple threat from the Canadian province of Quebec, while Mark Forte Jr., Rob Bellinger, Joe Isabell, Alan Fink, Keith Flach, Jordan Watson, Rick Wegner, Steve Haggan and ’07 Sportsman rookie of the year Larry Wight are among the young guns aiming highest during the 2008 DIRTcar Racing campaign.
