Rolling Wheels Raceway Gears Up for Huge All Star Weekend Events
DIRT Hall of Fame ceremony in Weedsport leads into night of Super DIRTcar action
ELBRIDGE, N.Y. — May 25, 2012 — Race fans will be seeing stars this Sunday, May 27, as the fourth annual All-Star Weekend kicks off with the Hall of Fame induction ceremony at DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame and Classic Car Museum, continuing with Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified action as well as DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds and DIRTcar Stock Cars at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park.
The day kicks off with a ceremony at 1 p.m. honoring the 2012 inductees of the DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame and Classic Car Museum. Inductees include such greats as Pete Bicknell, Dianne Tobias, Ovide Doiron, Bill Colton, Cheryl Kirkland, Jack Johnson, and Alton and Carole Palmer. The ceremony will take place at the museum, which is located at One Speedway Drive, Weedsport, N.Y., adjacent to the Cayuga County Fairgrounds.
The festivities will then travel to the Rolling Wheels Raceway Park for the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds and DIRTcar Stock Cars events. The pit gate will open at 3 p.m. and the grandstands will open at 4:30 p.m. with races starting at 7 p.m.
The marquee event at Rolling Wheels Raceway features the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds in their second points event of the season. Danny Johnson won the opener in April at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, and is coming off of a DIRTcar 358-Modified victory last weekend at Cornwall Motor Speedway. The 66-lap race on the big 5/8-mile oval will feature the biggest names in Big-Block Modified racing, including seven-time champion Brett Hearn and two-time defending champion Matt Sheppard. Johnson will aim to build his lead in the championship standings with a victory over Hearn, Sheppard and all the Modified stars Sunday night “The Fast Track.”
