Weedsport, NYJanuary 21, 2008 – By Dan Kapuscinski, DIRTcar NE PR and Promotions Coordinator

In honor of DIRT Motorsports’ inception in 1976, the annual Memorial Day Weekend Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event on Sunday, May 25 at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway will now be run as the “Hall of Fame 76.”

The event was originally scheduled as a Twin 54-lap feature format.

“After reviewing the 2007 season and input from our competitors, we decided that a couple more long distance events would be good for our race teams,” said Cayuga County Fair and Canandaigua Speedway General Manager Jack Deery. “We wanted to keep the event in line with honoring the history of DIRT Motorsports on this important weekend, and making the event 76 laps fits the mold.”

The Hall of Fame Weekend will kick off at 7pm with DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, DIRTcar Street Stocks and the Mid-State Vintage Modifieds joining the exciting card of racing.

Cayuga County Fair Speedway will not be the only track to undergo a format change. The Canandaigua Speedway series event scheduled for Saturday, September 20 will also include a single feature race.

The highlight event of the Land of Legends Racefest will move from the Twin 50 format to the “Racefest 100” for Big-Block Modifieds. This race will serve as a tune-up for the following weekend at the Rolling Wheels Raceway, as the World Series Weekend Big-Block event will drop the Triple 50’s and revert back to the traditional 200-lap race with pit stops.

“The calendar gave us the ability to have a second series race this year at Canandaigua, and this affords our competitors another opportunity to tune up for Super DIRT Week,” Deery said. “We chose September 20th as a 100-lap event over our August series race to get the race teams geared up for the following World Series Weekend at Rolling Wheels.”

The Land of Legends Racefest will be a two-day affair starting Friday, September 19 at 7pm. Friday’s schedule will be highlighted by the Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modifieds “Land of Legends 75.” The UMP Street Stocks Big-Six Series will also be in competition.

The next evening will be a twin-bill of Mr. DIRTcar series action as the Big-Block Modified “Racefest 100” will be paired with the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series “Land of Legends 45.”

The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series events scheduled at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park for Sunday, May 4 as a part of the 28th Annual DIRT Challenge Cup, and the Labor Day event on Monday, September 1 will remain as Twin 50 events.

“The Twins format has been a fan favorite,” Deery added. “So we have kept two of our Twin events intact at Rolling Wheels, as well as the August 9th show at Canandaigua.”

New to the Rolling Wheels Raceway schedule this season will be the “Firecracker Twins” for the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series on Thursday, July 3. The best of the best in Sportsman Modified racing will do battle in two separate 20-lap main events.

Cayuga County Fair Speedway will open for its 54th season on Sunday, April 13 while Canandaigua Speedway kicks off another exciting season of racing on Saturday, April 19.

The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds will once again open the season at Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday, March 22.
