Matt Sheppard will begin the title defense of his Super DIRTcar Series championship on May 29 in the All-Star Weekend at Rolling Wheels Raceway. The tour includes events at the most storied venues for Modified racing plus six events in Canada.
A highlight every year is the Super DIRT Week SEF Small Engine Fuels 200 – this season celebrating its 40th anniversary on Oct. 9. Following the huge event on the Moody Mile at the New York State Fairgrounds, the road to the World Finals in November at The Dirt Track at Charlotte also includes the 3rd Global Warranty DIRTcar Fall Nationals at Brockville Ontario Speedway and a return to Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y., as a part of the historic Eastern States Weekend.
The DIRTcar 358-Modified tour kicks off on May 23 at Merrittville Speedway and includes three points-paying events during Super DIRT Week XL, including the 150-mile event Oct. 8 at Syracuse, before deciding its champion on Oct.15 at Brockville Ontario Speedway.
A robust DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series schedule includes early-season events April 23 at Can Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville, N.Y., April 30 at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park and May 1 at Cayuga County Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y. A huge three-day weekend kicks off fall with races Sept. 9 at Ransomville (N.Y.) Speedway, Sept. 10 at Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ontario, and Sept. 11 at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario. The Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman championship will have two events during Super DIRT Week before deciding the series champion on Oct. 16 at Brockville Ontario Speedway.
The DIRTcar Pro Stock Series schedule kicks off June 5 at Cornwall (Ontario) Speedway and includes a big weekend in Quebec with races June 24 at Autodrome Granby and June 25 at Autodrome Drummond. A September event at Mohawk International Raceway in Akwesasne, N.Y., sets the stage for the final two races Oct. 9 at the New York State Fairgrounds and Oct. 17 at Brockville Ontario Speedway.
An All-Star lineup of drivers is expected to compete for the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified championship in 2011. In addition to defending champion Sheppard, of Waterloo, N.Y., seven-time champion Brett Hearn, of Sussex, N.J., has already proven with a win in Florida to start the year that he’s geared up for this season.
Jimmy Phelps, of Baldwinsville, N.Y., will be back and aiming for his first series championship in addition to his first victory in the SEF Small Engine Fuels 200. His cousin, Ryan Phelps, also of Baldwinsville, N.Y., and the winner of the inaugural All-Star Weekend event is also set to tackle the Big-Block Modified tour this season.
Stewart Friesen, the defending SEF Small Engine Fuels 200 champion as well as this year’s DIRTcar Nationals Big-Block Modified champion is also expected to compete on the Super DIRTcar Series circuit in his quest to win his first series championship. Friesen, of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, became the first Canadian to win the 200-mile finale at Super DIRT Week last year.
Adding more international flavor to the series, Australian Peter Britten will compete on the tour this year.
In addition, Tom Sears Jr., of Fulton, N.Y.; Rich Scaggliotta, of Bound Brook, N.J.; Justin Haers, of Phelps, N.Y.; Danny Johnson, of Rochester, N.Y.; Jeff Brownell Jr., of Waterloo, N.Y.; Billy Dunn, of Watertown, N.Y.; Dale Planck, of Cortland, N.Y.; Gary Tomkins, of Clifton Springs, N.Y.; and Tim Currier, of Auburn, N.Y.; are all expected to be regular competitors on the Super DIRTcar Series tour in 2011.
World of Outlaws Late Model Series stars Tim Fuller and Tim McCreadie, both of Watertown, N.Y., are expected to compete with the Super DIRTcar Series when their schedules permit.
