Felix Roy is making a change in 2025.
After two seasons with the Super DIRTcar Series, he wants to improve. To do that, he’s mirroring a strategy used by defending Series champion Mat Williamson last season—race weekly in a Big Block.
The Napierville, QC driver will call Albany-Saratoga Speedway his home on Friday nights after running the last three seasons in a 358 Modified at Autodrome Granby. That change allows him to get more seat time in the 800-horsepower Big Block Modified.
“We saw Williamson run Land of Legends in a Big Block every Saturday, and he really took a step forward, and he was really dominant last year,” Roy said. “During the winter, we had an opportunity with Chris Reckner from Elmo’s Speed and Supply. So, we’ll pair together and race Friday nights at Albany-Saratoga.”
Roy has already succeeded at the “Great Race Place,” earning a podium finish in the last two seasons between the Super DIRTcar Series and DIRTcar 358 Modified Series. One of the reasons he said he’s excited to race at Albany-Saratoga weekly is the similarities to the tracks he grew up on.
“Every time we go there, it’s been a success,” Roy said. “Last year, we did good, and got an eighth-place finish, and the year before, we finished second in the Kenny Tremont show. It’s just a nice track with nice dirt, similar to what we see in Quebec. That helps us because it’s really my style of track.”
By driving a Big Block weekly, “Hollywood” hopes he can get off to a better start with the Super DIRTcar Series than in 2024. Despite earning seven top 10s in 19 races, it took Roy 11 races to earn his first top 10.
Before his weekly voyage to Albany-Saratoga Speedway begins, he’ll kick off the Super DIRTcar Series championship season at New Egypt Speedway on Saturday, March 29, and Can-Am Speedway on Saturday, April 12. Roy said his team has been working hard in the offseason and has a goal of where he wants to be at the end of the season.
“We’re looking to be consistent in the top 10 and top five,” Roy said. “Last year, we got ninth in the championship, but this year, we really put the effort in the cars and the motors. We’re coming out big and want a fifth or sixth-place finish in the championship.”
Roy and the Super DIRTcar Series return to action on Saturday, March 29, for Power in the Pines at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, NJ.
