{"id":15518,"date":"2024-06-03T11:51:27","date_gmt":"2024-06-03T15:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/superdirtcarseries.com\/?p=15518"},"modified":"2024-06-03T11:51:29","modified_gmt":"2024-06-03T15:51:29","slug":"drivers-highlight-importance-of-guaranteed-starting-spots-at-super-dirt-week-52","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/superdirtcarseries.com\/dirtcar-ne\/big-block-modifieds\/super-dirt-car-series\/drivers-highlight-importance-of-guaranteed-starting-spots-at-super-dirt-week-52\/","title":{"rendered":"Drivers Highlight Importance of Guaranteed Starting Spots at Super DIRT Week 52"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The road to&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/superdirtweek.com\/\">Super DIRT Week<\/a>&nbsp;52 officially begins this week for the Super DIRTcar Series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the Series battles at Big Diamond Speedway in Pottsville, PA, on Tuesday, June 4, and Selinsgrove Speedway on Wednesday, June 5, the first two of nine guaranteed starting spots in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 at Oswego Speedway are on the line.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winner of each race will lock into Super DIRT Week, but if a driver who\u2019s already won a Qualifier wins another, the guaranteed starting spot will go to the next driver in the race\u2019s finishing order who isn\u2019t locked in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each Super DIRT Week Qualifier also brings a significant payday, as each Feature pays $10,000 or more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the seven remaining Super DIRT Week qualifiers in 2024 after the Pennsylvania swing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Weedsport Speedway (July 14)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Autodrome Drummond (July 23)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lebanon Valley Speedway (Aug. 31)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weedsport Speedway (Sept. 7)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Albany-Saratoga Speedway (Sept. 21)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Atomic Speedway (Sept. 27 and Sept. 28)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While the winner\u2019s purse helps every race team, earning a guaranteed spot at Super DIRT Week is a chance to ease the pressure of Qualifying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Full-time Series driver Mike Mahaney earned a guaranteed spot after winning the King of the North finale at Autodrome Drummond last August, allowing him to take a different approach to \u201cRacing\u2019s Biggest Party.\u201d And with that, he finished third in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 \u2013 his first top-five and top-10 finish in the race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"629\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.dirtcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/03114810\/MikeMahaney_DylanTerry2-1024x629.jpg\" alt=\"Mike Mahaney\" class=\"wp-image-15522\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.dirtcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/03114810\/MikeMahaney_DylanTerry2-1024x629.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.dirtcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/03114810\/MikeMahaney_DylanTerry2-300x184.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.dirtcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/03114810\/MikeMahaney_DylanTerry2-768x472.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn.dirtcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/03114810\/MikeMahaney_DylanTerry2.jpg 1172w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mike Mahaney gets ready to hit the track at Super DIRT Week\/Dylan Terry Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe kind of focused more in practice on the Feature and not thinking about Qualifying,\u201d Mahaney said. \u201cWe focused on having overall speed on the track and making sure the car was good on the long runs instead of making sure it Qualified well. I think that\u2019s a huge deal. If we get one or two, it&#8217;s cool, but with the weather and stuff that comes into play at Oswego, it\u2019s always good to have that in your back pocket.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peter Britten enters this week\u2019s Super DIRT Week Qualifiers as the Super DIRTcar Series points leader. And while the Brisbane, QLD driver said the guaranteed spots are excellent, he\u2019s still focused on winning every Series race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnytime you can guarantee yourself into a race, it\u2019s always a good thing,\u201d Britten said. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to obsess over it necessarily because, obviously, you want to be good enough to make the show, and if you\u2019re not good enough, you\u2019re probably not going to do much in the race anyway.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cObviously, things can go wrong, too. It\u2019s cool seeing all the big dogs show up where I race every week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m feeling pretty confident (going into Big Diamond). We\u2019ve made some changes we think will be right, and we\u2019re going to give it our best shot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Super DIRTcar Series heads to Pennsylvania with two guaranteed Billy Whittaker 200 starting spots available, starting at Big Diamond Speedway on Tuesday, June 4, for the Anthracite Assault. Then, the Keystone State swing continues Wednesday, June 5, at Selinsgrove Speedway for the Sand Hill 75.
