2016 Super DIRTcar Series Expands Its Boundaries

The series rolls into DIRTcar Nationals on Wednesday

By Jo Ann Davies

BARBERVILLE, Fla. - Feb. 11, 2016 - The Super DIRTcar Series schedule has taken on a new look for the 2016 season and it's one that has its touring drivers and DIRTcar Northeast's Mike Perrotte excited about the challenges awaiting them. "This year's schedule has generated a ton of interest," stated Perrotte, "and we are ready to deliver a superior dirt racing experience for all of our fans."

With the top Big-Block Modified point drivers from last season committing themselves to this year's program, as well as a couple of new followers, the title could belong to anyone at season's end. For most of the past decade the Mr. DIRTcar title has been a contest among the same three drivers-four-time SDS champion Matt Sheppard, three-time SDS champion Billy Decker, and eight-time SDS champion Brett Hearn.

Before the season even began, the 2015 Series champion, Matt Sheppard, and the second place finisher in points, Billy Decker, were each dealt the blow of being informed by their team owners they needed to look elsewhere for 2016. Speculation was rampant as to what each driver would do for the upcoming season.

CONCORD, N.C. - Jan. 29, 2016 -Matt Sheppard, the 2015 Super DIRTcar Series champion, will have a different set of challenges than previous years when the series kicks-off at the 45th Annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. W-16 Engine Approved for Competition in DIRTcar 358-Modified Division

$10,000 engine option opens doors for new teams in division

By Mike Mallett

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. - Dec. 29, 2015 - After a full year of testing, the Wegner Motorsports W-16 Engine is approved and ready for implementation in the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series. For less than $10,000, the engine will be legal at all DIRTcar sanctioned facilities as well as in the 358-Modified Series in 2016.

The new combination will allow drivers to enter the division while giving those already in competition an economical option.

"What we wanted was an alternative for the Sportsman guys moving up as well as for drivers who are already in the division and looking for an economical option," said Mike Perrotte, DIRTcar director, series and sanctioning. "This isn't for everyone, but it is affordable and will keep more people racing. We've seen what the GM Performance option has done to grow the Sportsman ranks and we hope to help some of them move up to the 358-Modified division."
