The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event scheduled to open the season at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on Saturday, March 28 has been cancelled. Falling victim to wet weather for the fourth time in a decade ---2nd straight year--- the ‘North-South Shootout’ special for Big-Block Modifieds will not be rescheduled.

Thirty one. That’s the total number of racing laps contested by Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series invader Gary Tomkins on his 2009 Australian tour after rain washed out his second and final race on Saturday night (Feb. 14). Tomkins was to contest in Round Two of the Roosters Cup V8 Dirt Modified Series at Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba, only for rain in the lead-up and the threat of more to come, seeing the race postponed to April 25, long after his return to the United States.

Following two straight days of misfortune in the 38th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH, Friday the 13th was a blessing for Jamie Mills as he outlasted a late-race charge by Billy Decker to claim a narrow victory at Volusia Speedway Park.

Mills’ third career Advance Auto Parts Big-Block Modified feature win at the popular Barberville, Florida speedplant was worth $2,000 for the Blue Hen Racing team.

Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series racer Gary Tomkins began his second Australian tour with a fighting fourth-place finish at the Lismore Speedway on Saturday night (Feb. 7). Tomkins has reunited with Australian racer Ray Klarich for a two-race campaign which will end with next Saturday night’s (Feb. 14) Roosters Cup round in Toowoomba. The Clifton Springs, New York veteran is driving the same Bicknell chassis ---powered by a Small-Block--- he campaigned during the 2007 Advance Series numbered 84, a car Klarich purchased at the end of that season.

New Yorker Jimmy Phelps rounded out his two-race Australian campaign with a fighting second place finish on Saturday night (Jan 31) at the Maryborough Speedway. Competing in the opening round of the ‘Roosters Cup’ Series, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series driver Phelps was high qualifier heading into the main event after some tough, three-wide racing early in the night.
