Sheppard receives coveted trophy for record third consecutive season

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. - Nov. 10, 2012 - Mr. DIRTcar and DIRTcar Northeast Series champions and stars gathered Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Holiday Inn Liverpool to celebrate another successful season.

Matt Sheppard, of Waterloo, N.Y., made 2012 a year for the record books, becoming the first driver to claim three consecutive Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Super DIRTcar Series Championship titles.

"This is where it's tough for me," said Sheppard, as the fact hit home that he had rewritten racing history with his third championship title. "I'm still a fan, I've always been a fan. I still picture myself as a 15-year-old rooting on Alan Johnson, and Danny Johnson, and here I am now."

"There are a hundred different pieces that go together," Sheppard continued, "and if one of those one hundred pieces isn't there, I wouldn't be standing here today, and I definitely wouldn't standing here three years in a row."

Hearn Hopes to Continue Super DIRTcar Series Success at Eastern States

Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds take on Orange County’s Hard Clay for 51st Annual Eastern States 200 Oct. 21

MIDDLETOWN, N. Y. – Oct. 16, 2012 – Just coming off NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLI, the Big-Block Modifieds of the Super DIRTcar Series head south for another historic event, the 51st Annual Eastern States Weekend presented by Arkel Motors at Orange County Fair Speedway.

Eastern States Weekend, an action-packed three days of racing set for Friday, Oct. 19, through Sunday, Oct. 21, hosts the Super DIRTcar Series for the weekend’s finale, the 51st Annual Eastern States 200 Modified Championship race on Sunday, Oct. 21.

For this year’s winner of VP Small Engine Fuels 200 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, Brett Hearn, the long-running Eastern States 200 brings back childhood memories.

“As a kid, I grew up sitting in the stands at 11 and 12 years old and watching the Eastern States 200,” said Hearn, of Vernon, N. J., whose shop is located just 30 minutes from the speedway in Middletown. “It’s got a lot of history, a lot of prestige. I remember going there before I ever drove a stock car, sitting in the stands during the Eastern States races.”

Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds Gear up for Rolling Wheels

Stakes Get Higher at "The Fast Track" with Season's First 150-Point Race

ELBRIDGE, N. Y. - August 20, 2012 - The Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series battle for points heats up for the 100-lap, 150-point ninth round Sunday, September 2, at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. With only a few races left before NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLI and the Sixth Annual Lowes Foods World Finals, and with the winner's share of points increasing from 100 to 150, anything can happen between now and the championship.

Jimmy Phelps, second in points, trails leader and defending series champion Matt Sheppard by just 50 points and hopes resurrecting some old tactics can bring him success at the Stars & Stripes 100. The Baldwinsville, N. Y., native began his career racing regularly at Rolling Wheels, but his 2011 season saw uncharacteristic results with seventh- and eighth-place finishes. However, some retrospective strategizing helped him to an improved fourth-place finish at "The Fast Track's" 66-lapper during All-Star Weekend in May.

"We crept back toward some of our old notes in the spring race and that put us in the right direction, and we've just got to take it a bit further and see what happens," Phelps said. "I think the biggest thing is that we've worked so hard to get better at race tracks that we struggled at, that we forgot what we were doing at home." (Photo by Dave Dallesandro)

Big-Block Battle for Points at Merrittville

Sheppard Leads Hearn by One Point in Super DIRTcar Series

THOROLD, Ontario – July 30, 2012 – With just a one-point margin between point leader Matt Sheppard and Brett Hearn in second place, the Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series brawl for points continues with the thrilling 100-lap Bob St. Amand Sr. Memorial at Merrittville Speedway Monday, Aug. 6.

Sheppard, who won the series’ appearances at the same 3/8-mile banked clay track in 2009, 2010, and 2011, said his past experience will benefit his performance in round six, and perhaps help him build his lead.

“We’ve won the last three years in a row up there, so hopefully we can go up there and make it four in a row,” said Sheppard, defending Super DIRTcar Series Champion.
