2012 Season Review: Hearn demonstrated in his 2012 Super DIRTcar Series performance his flair for the dramatic. His year started strong enough, finishing second to Danny Johnson at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park’s season opener. He finished fifth at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park during All-Star Weekend and, after an early race wreck, charged from the pits to a tenth-place finish at Cornwall Motor Speedway. He settled for runner-up again at Albany-Saratoga Speedway for The Big Show 4, a show he also helped promote, and again at Autodrome Drummond. Illness slowed his momentum as the series headed west, causing him to miss races at Merrittville Speedway and I96 Speedway. “The Jet” recovered quickly, making it to Mr. DIRT Track U.S.A. at his home track, Lebanon Valley Speedway, where his season quickly went from strong to amazing. He wrecked his 20 in qualifying events, and started the race in a backup car from the 23rd spot; but starting positions mean nothing to “The Jet,” who shocked his audience with an impressive charge to first. The drama didn’t end there. Hearn went on to win the fabled VP Small Engine Fuels 200 during NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLI at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse and the Eastern States 200 at Orange County Fair Speedway, thus topping three of the biggest Super DIRTcar Series races in the Northeast, earning what some have called the dirt racing “Triple Crown.” Hearn concluded his season with a flourish, finishing third at the first Super DIRTcar Series feature event at The Dirt Track in Charlotte during PEAK Motor Oil World of Outlaws World Finals presented by NAPA, and winning the series finale the next night.
