2012 Season Review: Decker started the 2012 season with a seventh-place finish at Canandaigua Motorsports Park and a second-place finish at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park during All-Star Weekend. He stayed strong, finishing eighth at Albany-Saratoga Speedway for Brett Hearn’s Big Show 4, fourth at Lebanon Valley Speedway for Mr. DIRT Track U.S.A. and fourth in the Stars & Stripes 100 at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. Decker rolled into NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLI with a strong season fueling his momentum as he made fast time in both Big-Block Modified and 358-Modified qualifying events. Although he started at the pole for Sunday’s VP Small Engine Fuels 200, Decker finished 19th in the rain-shortened race. A second-place finish in the Eastern States 200 at the Orange County Fair Speedway proved that he was no novice in long races, and 13th and 26th place finishes rounded out his season at The Dirt Track at Charlotte for PEAK Motor Oil World of Outlaws World Finals presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

Series History: Decker has gained national prominence by copping four televised VP Small Engine Fuels 200 Championships held at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse during NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week. Along with capturing a pair of overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Modified Championships (2008, 1998), he also added four Lebanon Valley 200 titles and a pair of Rolling Wheels National 200 triumphs to his resume, with Orange County’s Eastern States 200 trophy in 1998 another prized possession. Decker owns nine track Modified speed marks including the single lap record of 28.348 sec. (126.993 mph ave.) on the Syracuse Mile established in 2004.
DIRTcar Racing Record: Decker has posted more than 180 Big-Block feature wins since graduating from the small-block (15 wins) ranks in 1985 and has garnered more than a dozen individual DIRTcar track championships in the Empire State. The 1998 DIRTcar Northeast Driver of the Year led all Big-Block chauffeurs that same season with 18 feature wins and pulled off a ‘Triple Decker’ with track point titles collected at Canandaigua, Cayuga County and Brewerton. Punctuating his most successful season (23 wins) in a motorsports career that now spans 28 years, he was honored as the 2008 Eastern Motorsport Press Association Richie Evans Memorial Northeastern Driver of the Year at the annual EMPA Convention held outside Philadelphia. He was also among an elite group of 23 drivers from across the country nominated for National Speed Sport News’ 2008 Economaki Champion of Champions Award presented by Speedway Motorsports, Inc.
Fun Fact: Heralded as DIRTcar Northeast’s most frequent flier, Decker has racked up more miles in the air than any other Super DIRTcar Series Series title contender during the new millennium. Co-owner of Quality Hardwoods, Inc. located in Sidney, New York, the ‘Franklin Flyer’ often puts in full day’s work before boarding a plane and touching down on a local airstrip just in time to make the next tour event.
